The ARC Daily Intelligence Rundown

The physical economy is putting up some ridiculous numbers, but the important question is increasingly who can actually deliver. Eaton's electrical backlog jumped 46%, Lockheed Martin committed another $420 million to missile manufacturing, and Drax joined Brookfield and Radiant to pursue more than a gigawatt of data-center capacity beside an existing British power station. CVR Energy agreed to acquire $4.2 billion worth of refining and distribution assets, while Caterpillar moved further downstream by purchasing a 37-location dealership network. American manufacturing expanded for a tenth consecutive month, but equipment costs, supply constraints, labor negotiations and geopolitical disruptions continue complicating the picture. The money is moving. The machinery, infrastructure and people needed to turn it into productive capacity remain the real story.

Backbone Pulse

The physical economy is sending mixed but revealing signals. Rail volumes are up 7.8% year over year, and dry-van trucking capacity is tightening, suggesting freight demand is holding up even as equipment availability becomes more constrained. Copper and dry-bulk shipping rates are falling, while steel remains elevated.

Crude oil is trading above $96 per barrel despite recent inventory draws, and national gasoline prices remain above $4 per gallon. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury yield at 4.95% keeps financing expensive for capital-intensive businesses. Agricultural futures are mostly lower, particularly grains and cattle.
